NISSAN IMPROVES MARKET SHARE

ROLLE, Switzerland (February 4th, 2009) - Nissan in Europe has reported 36,735sales in January, representing a decrease of 27.3% year on year.


However, market share for January reached 3.2%, which is an increase of 0.2% points compared with the previous year.*


“Tough conditions prevail in all markets across Eastern and Western Europe but to achieve our highest monthly market share since March 2008 was a great achievement” said Francois Goupil de Bouille, Vice President - Sales for Nissan in Europe.


Key markets highlights:


·         Russia remained Nissan Europe’s strongest market recording sales of 6,828 units in January.


·         Despite the deterioration of the economic climate, some markets demonstrated high increase in sales volume. The sales in Bulgaria, Hungary and Holland increased, respectively, by 45.9%; 45.2% and 36.1% year on year.


·         Market share in Spain and Portugal improved year on year in January with 4.6% (v 3.6%) and 2.7% (v 2.1%) respectively. In Russia, despite the decline in volume Nissan gained market share compared with the same month in 2008, reaching 5.9% in January.*


Key models highlights:


·         Despite steep declines in total industry volume across Europe, sales of Nissan’s compact crossover Qashqai remained strong with 11,990units sold in January, representing an increase of 14% compare to December 2008.


·         Sales of Navara, Qashqai+2 and Note went up compared to last month, with an increase of 27.1%; 25.1% and 14.4%, respectively.
