NISSAN SALES SHOW FIRST INCREASE IN VOLUMES
YEAR ON YEAR SINCE CRISIS
Market Share Remains Consistent with 2.8% across Europe
ROLLE, Switzerland (Nov. 5, 2009) - Nissan in Europe has reported sales of 45,225 units in October, representing an increase of 10% year on year. Overall TIV was down 6% versus September 2008.
In Western Europe, total industry volume was up 10%, in contrast to Eastern Europe where TIV was down over 50% versus October 2008. Nissan reported a significant increase in market share (2.8% v 2.4%) adding to good performances reported in July, August and September. This sales and share boost can be attributed to models such as Qashqai, Pixo, Micra and Note, with strong customer order banks for these models across all markets. In addition, Nissan improved its market share once again in each of its major Western European markets versus previous year.
These positive results were offset by the challenging market context in Russia where falling TIV (-54%) and unfavourable exchange rates are strongly impacting Nissan sales (-52% v Oct. 2008)
Bernard Loire, Vice President Sales Operations for Nissan in Europe commented:
“October results have been very positive for the fourth month in a row and we have maintained our consistent market share performance across Europe at 2.8%. Although the Western European markets show signs of stabilizing, there are no noticeable signs of recovery in the East.
This first increase year on year since before the crisis is very encouraging, and we are pleased that customer demand for Qashqai, Note, Micra and Pixo continues to be very strong”
