NISSAN REPORTS SEPTEMBER SALES IN EUROPE
ROLLE, Switzerland (October 8th, 2008) - Nissan has reported 59,359 sales in Europe in September representing a decrease of 5.5% year on year. A total of 490,193 units have been sold since January 2008, up by 16% compared to the previous year.
Francois Goupil de Bouille, vice president for sales for Nissan in Europe commented, “September saw some unpleasant declines in volume across the industry in Europe. For Nissan however, Qashqai’s third shift ramp-up at the Sunderland plant in the UK is starting to ease the flow of Qashqai sales across all markets. In addition, the 16% year on year growth is being supported by other models such as Micra and Tiida, softening the impact of the current economic crisis.”
Key highlights
- The Micra and Note are performing well on a year-to-date basis (73,075 units -1.5% and 73,775 units +6.5% respectively) at a time when the models are mid-way through their life cycle.
- Nissan’s Qashqai order bank is starting to ease following the ramp-up of the third shift at its Sunderland plant in the UK. Nissan in Italy, for example, saw a 5% increase versus the same month last year with 5,137 units of which Qashqai saw a 50% increase year on year.
- Tiida continues to outperform expectations with 3,369 units sold in September which is performing well in Eastern European markets.
