NISSAN REPORTS OCTOBER SALES IN EUROPE

ROLLE, Switzerland (November 4th, 2008) - Nissan has reported 40,629 sales in Europe in October representing a decrease of 19% year on year. A total of 530,822 units have been sold since January 2008, up by 12% compared to the previous year.


Francois Goupil de Bouille, vice president for sales for Nissan in Europe commented, “Despite another challenging month across Europe, Nissan maintained sales performances in some key markets such as Italy and France and saw growth in the Ukraine and Belgium.  Overall in the short term, we foresee little improvement and market conditions will remain very difficult.”


Key highlights


  • The Ukraine and Belgium saw strong performances in October with 1,700 units (+40%) and 1,560 units (+24%) sold respectively compared to last year.


  •  France and Italy managed to maintain their sales performance in another challenging month for the industry with 3,773 units (-4%) and 4,660 units (-5%) sold respectively compared to the previous year.

 

  • Despite the decline in the markets, Qashqai sales remained in line with last year with 13,925 units sold this month.


  • Following the successful launch of Teana in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, the model sold 1,024 units this month, up 50% compared to the previous model last year.


  • Nissan’s premium brand Infiniti sold 1,130 units in October following its official launch in western Europe compared to 530 units the previous year.
