NISSAN REPORTS AUGUST 2009 SALES IN EUROPE

 

ROLLE, Switzerland (Sept 8, 2009) - Nissan in Europe has reported 31,906 units in August, representing a decrease of 13% year on year. Overall TIV was down 18% versus

August 2008.  Market share increased to 3.1% versus 2.9% in 2008 and is the highest monthly share since January and an improvement on July.

 

“   Although total volumes were down on 2008 due primarily to market conditions in Russia, our share improvement continues to be sustained in a very competitive market.” - Bernard Loire, Vice President - Sales for Nissan in Europe.

 

Key markets highlights:

 

·              All major western markets grew market share versus 2008 notably:

·              UK (3.7% vs 2.7%) Germany (2.2% vs 1.5%) Spain (5.2% vs 3.3%)

·              Germany & Spain’s market share is the highest monthly share for many years.

·              TIV in the major Western European markets was boosted by scrap incentives but still at similar levels to 2008 with the exception of Germany which was +25%.

·              Russia is still suffering with a TIV drop of 56% vs August 2008 with no recovery currently in sight.
